Delay Times: China Port Congestion Update

Please be advised that key origin ports in China are currently experiencing significant congestion. This situational update is intended to keep you informed of the current conditions impacting planned ETD/ETA windows.

Current Port Status (as of today):
  • Shanghai:
    150+ vessels at anchor
Berthing delays of up to 2 days
Average vessel waiting time: 2.5 days
  • Qingdao:
Facing additional delays due to regional congestion
Average vessel waiting time: 1.5 days
  • Yantian:
Average vessel waiting time: 1.5 days
What’s Causing the Delays?
  • Golden Week Timing:
Pre- and post-holiday slowdowns, along with reduced port and carrier capacity, have created bottlenecks.
  • Increased Cargo Volume:
Seasonal peak demand is pushing more cargo into limited port infrastructure.
  • Blank Sailings:
Carriers have implemented blank sailings during Golden Week, compressing cargo onto fewer sailings and causing vessel bunching at berths.
  • Weather-Related Disruptions:
While no major current weather events are reported, residual impacts from previous disruptions, such as Typhoon Tapah continue to affect port operations.

We will continue to monitor any further updates and notify you accordingly.
