Important Update:
Suez Canal and Red Sea Shipping Developments 2026
We would like to update you on recent developments affecting maritime transport between Asia, Europe and the Mediterranean. Several ocean carriers have indicated that they are considering or progressively introducing selected sailings through the Red Sea and Suez Canal, rather than continuing to route all services around the Cape of Good Hope.
Current Situation:
Although some carriers are considering or implementing these routing changes, this should not be interpreted as a full return to normal operations through the Red Sea and Suez Canal. The security environment remains uncertain, and shipping lines continue to evaluate the situation and determine their routes according to their individual risk assessments. Carriers may therefore alter vessel schedules or routing arrangements at short notice, including changing from the Cape of Good Hope route to the Suez Canal and Red Sea, or vice versa. These decisions are made by the respective shipping lines and are outside Gava International’s direct control.
Potential Impact on Your Shipments:
Customers should be aware that the route originally scheduled at the time of booking may subsequently change. Such changes can occur before departure or while a shipment is in transit and may result in longer transit times, schedule adjustments, port omissions, additional charges or other unexpected costs, in accordance with the applicable carrier terms and conditions.
Changes in routing may also involve transit through areas affected by war, terrorism, piracy or other security-related events. We strongly recommend reviewing your cargo insurance arrangements with your insurance broker or provider to ensure that your goods are adequately protected. If additional war-risk cover is required, this should be arranged before shipment wherever possible. Please note that any additional cover is subject to the insurer’s approval and applicable policy terms, conditions, exclusions and limits.
As your freight forwarding partner, Gava International will continue to coordinate your shipments and provide assistance within our role. However, vessel routing, operational decisions and associated changes remain the responsibility of the relevant ocean carriers. Any liability or claims arising from these circumstances will be considered in accordance with the applicable contractual terms and conditions.
